The Derangers’ Decade of Twang: From 1990 to 2000 I fronted an instrumental band (we played live as a trio) whose sound was dedicated to spooky, whammy-barred, reverb-soaked guitar. The Derangers “wester-mental” tone was the stuff of early surf music, spaghetti western themes and David Lynch movies. The first original track I wrote for the group was this one, “Rio Sangre,” a Sergio Leone/Ennio Morricone inspired number. It was recorded in 1990, 100% analog (of course!)
